Where to Begin?

One of the things that faces every new idea is the job of bringing it into reality, a place where I find myself now.

My focus in recent times has been on changing our world, not fighting its battles but addressing the causal factors working beneath the surface.

Sure, I know people don't want to change. Or if they do, maybe they don't know how. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't try, or at least lay down what I've found in order that future generations might use it if they choose.

It involves a concept I call awakening -- to the things going on in us, and the possibilities they offer by which we can begin to treat each other a little better.

I believe within us all is a potential for good, for truth, and for justice. Unfortunately, so often we leave it undeveloped or push it aside when life gets in the way.

If we're to address the things that are leading us to the brink, it stands to reason that either we expand and bring it to the surface, or carry forward the same characteristics that got us into this mess in the first place.

Once I thought we could get there simply by trying harder, but we look like the little Dutch boy trying to plug the leaks in the dike. Now I see we're going to have to expand everyone's consciousness lest we degenerate into a war of wills to impose our way upon those who disagree with us.

That consciousness starts with an awareness of who and what you are, and what you've gathered to make your journey through life. How does it serve you? Where is it leading you? What is it telling you about yourself?

Once you've started with that, then you can begin looking around at the rest of the world. Until then, how will you know whether you're making things better, or worse?
